About us

Ken Milam began guiding for stripers on Lake Buchanan in 1981.  In those days Texas fishermen were just learning to fish for stripers and downrigger fishing was the way to go.

After several years, Ken learned that live bait fishermen on Lake Texoma were having great success with stripers.  He took everything he had learned about Buchanan's underwater topography and striper behavioral patterns and replaced the downriggers and jigs with live shad and never looked back!

As the years rolled by, Ken Milam had local outdoor radio shows and fishing reports on KLBJ in Austin and KBEY in Marble Falls.  In 2008 he began "The Great Outdoors" on 1300 AM, The Zone in Austin on Saturday mornings.  Then The Zone added Ken's Sunday morning show, "The Sunday Sportsman".

As Ken became more involved with his radio career, his son, Max Milam began guiding fishing trips.  Max is a 2013 graduate of Texas A&M with a degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences.  He brings an extensive catfish and largemouth bass background to the business which complements the quest for stripers.

The water level of Lake Buchanan tends to vary quite a bit and all these years of charter fishing have taught us how to catch fish at all levels by using an array of methods. We do whatever puts fish in the boat!
